Grant, Heber J.

The Improvement Era, Vol. 34

Excerpt from The Improvement Era, Vol. 34: August, 1931

The dominant quality in Evan Stephens' art as in the man himself is sincerity. He was genuine in all that he did. Truth was his foun dation and was manifest in his entire structure. Rugged honesty shone from his countenance, the simplicity of greatness was stamped upon him. To know the depths of his soul is to know the truths of the Gospel of Christ. He ac cepted those truths with all his heart. They were his meat and drink, they were his chief delight: they brought him joy in this life and hope of eternal glory. It was fitting that just before he died he was privileged to lead the choir in singing for the assembled confer ence of the Church his Song of the Redeemed.
