Excerpt from The Industries of Kansas City: Historical, Descriptive, and StatisticalMissouri was organized as a Territory in July, 1812, and admitted as a State by the Missouri Compromise bill, approved March 6, 1820, the State Constitution being adopted July 19, following. The territory em braced in Jackson County had been successively a part of St. Louis, Howard and Cooper counties, under the Territorial government. In November, 1820, the county of Lillard was established, and its name was changed to Lafayette County, February 16, 1825.
