I have never asked but for one office in this Church, and that was to be an Elder. Brother Joseph the Prophet, in Kirtland, in the winter of 1836, was in the Temple with President Rigdon and other of the brethren. He got up and said - 'now brethren. If there are any of you here who would like to send in your name to be an Elder, please do so.'
