It only remains to add that Mr. Brooke gave to the compiler his manuscript sermons and addresses, together with not a few that were privately printed but not published. The selection which follows has been made by one who is conscious that the citations only imperfectly represent the wealth of material placed at his disposal. Another statement perhaps ought to be made. Mr. Brooke has been good enough not merely to read the passages chosen, but to revise.
