Excerpt from The Montreal Medical Journal, Vol. 32: January, 1903As is usual in these cases the wound did not heal readily, but pus appeared on the third day, and the wound partly reopened The tube was removed on the second day and replaced by aseptic gauze packing. The bowels moved well the next day by means of a turpentine and soap suds enema. 'lhe fever continued high, 1020 to 104° F., for over a week, and then gradually fell to normal on the fourteenth day after Operation. The wound closed by granulation, and the patient was dis charged ou the 3lst October.
