Terrence James Rivieres once had the perfect life. The son of hard-working, God-fearing Haitian immigrants in Kingston, Ontario, he astounds his family by winning a scholarship to Ryerson University. Once there, he embarks on a relationship with tall blonde heiress Deirdre Campbell, who leads him to the wilder side of big-city life. Hooked on a lifestyle of drinking, partying and sexual excess, Terrence loses his scholarship and ends up homeless. On the streets of Toronto he runs into his childhood friend Ayako Tokushima.
