In preparing this Manual, we have attempted to meet a want in the Presbyterian Church which we have often felt ourselves.

Our Confession of Faith and Form of Government are very complete, and answer admirably the purpose for which they were intended. But we need something to guide private Christians in their relations to the Church of their choice, to make them better acquainted with our ecclesiastical system, and to assist them in their devotions and the Christian training of their households.

The deacons and elders, also, may be glad to have such information as they require placed before them in a readable form, while our ministry, especially the younger portion of it, need hints and aids in the performance of their official duties.
