The Present Crisis in the Protestant Episcopal Church, and the Duty of Evangelical Men in Reference to It

Excerpt from The Present Crisis in the Protestant Episcopal Church, and the Duty of Evangelical Men in Reference to It: Being the Substance of a Sermon Preached in the Church of the Epiphany

The subject now to be considered is, the present crisis in the Protestant Episcopal Church, and the duty of evangelical men in reference thereto.

There does exist a crisis in this Church. On the one hand, there is a party in the Church that are rushing into all the extremes of sacerdotalism. They would carry the Church back to the doctrines and practices of the dark ages, before the Reformation dawned. On the other hand, there has been organized during the past year, what is called a Reformed Episcopal Church, and some very worthy and excellent persons from this Protestant Episcopal Church have joined it. And the question now before us - the question of the day, for evangelical men to consider is this - what is our duty in reference to this new Church?
