"The president hates the media and we don't like him either"

Most countries today are proud to say that they honour human rights and that they have freedom of the press. But what is stated in the law of a country is not always the reality for the people. A country that has received a lot of criticism for how it handles the right to freedom of the press is Ecuador. In several reports human rights organizations accuse Ecuador of censoring the media and causing troubles for news organizations. This book reports on the personal experiences of Ecuadorian journalists concerning the freedom of the press. In a qualitative study we meet nine working journalists and get to know their daily struggles and concerns. The aim with the study has been to analyze their personal opinions regarding censorship, self-censorship, the media climate and if they feel there is press freedom for journalists in Ecuador. The study should be useful to journalists, reporters or anyone else who wants to get a deeper understanding of the media climate in Ecuador. It has been awarded "Best thesis of 2010" at the Journalism and Media Production Programme at Linnaeus University.
