The Profitability and Technical Efficiences of Cocoa Production

Cocoa Production in the Study area was said to be one of the foreign earnings to the federal government of Nigeria prior to the discovery of oil in the late 1950s that led to the undue neglect of the vital crop. But efforts are being made recently to encourage the local producers of the vital crop towards increased cocoa production. This book aims to draw the attention of the stakeholders to the untapped potentials in the cocoa production in Nigeria as a whole and the study Area in particular. Furthermore, a careful analysis and reading through this book will be a great resource and guide to potential cocoa farmers especially in the developing countries including Nigeria where cocoa is found to be one of the perennial crops providing foreign exchange earnings to the government in form of export. In addition, some recommendations are made to the Government on how to improve the productions by the primary producers who are the local farmers. This study analyses the profitability and technical efficiencies of Cocoa Production in the study area. The study area (Idanre Local Government Area) was particularly chosen for this study because of its prime place in cocoa production in Nigeria
