Is the Constitution a living document, or sacred and inviolate as written? What did the commerce clause mean when it was written? What did the Founders mean when they spoke of the general welfare? How about the intent of the second amendment? Does freedom of association have a simple meaning? Is there an endorsement of any particular economic system in The Constitution? What is the difference between a democracy and a republic? These questions are at the center of a massive divide between Americans today - a divide that could ultimately tear us apart. Having fought one civil-war we may be headed for another. What do you believe? The question has never been more important. If you had to make a choice, what would it be based upon? If your financial security was gone and you had to start over - under what conditions would you be able to prosper? To what level do you require security? What about freedom? Do you need a government that is involved in your daily life? How self-reliant are you? If the government infrastructure collapsed, how would you take care of your family? Are you active in politics? Have you read - and studied - the U.S. Constitution? The revolutionary and pre-revolutionary history of America? Can a republic succeed under capitalism in a multi-cultural society? To what extent should we be a meritocracy? Are we now victims of our own success - too comfortable to protest a government far more intrusive than King George III ever was? Has politics become far too localized, politicians far too entrenched, and statesmen - who keep the general welfare truly in mind - become rare and unlikely. The Red State Constitution is designed to engender thought. It is hoped that you will read it and examine (or develop) your own philosophy. It is written from a libertarian/conservative point of view because it is the only view the author understands. A similar book from the other side would be welcome, however, because the goal is to re-establish an electorate capable of sustaining a republic. Our children and grandchildren are depending on it.
