Excerpt from The Register of Perlethorpe in the County of NottinghamI have already remarked that many of the earlier entries have been galled, a practice which in my opinion is deserving of the severest condemnation it is in the power of the would-be preserver of parish registers to bestow. It admits of no justification, for however carefully the faded ink may be for the time restored, sooner or later it blots out the record for ever.
