Excerpt from The Representation of Automobile Engine Economy Performance by Surfaces: A ThesisThe object of this thesis is the development of a.new method of representing the economy tests of automobile engines. The engine tests were carried out according to the latest method in which load, speed and throttle openings are varied. This gives rev sulte which closely simulate operating condi tions. Instead of plotting the data in the usual manner with reference to two coordinate axes, this thesis brings out a method of plot ting data with reference to three coordinate axes, thus giving a surfaee which represents all possible operating conditions of the engine.
