Excerpt from The Scottish Biographical Magazine, 1912, Vol. 28Beyond the water-laden mist which completely enveloped the low lying country to the foothills of the central range, fifty miles distant, rose line upon line of knife-edged forestrclad ridges, lying east and west and parallel to the main range, which stretches from one end of the island to the other, a distance of eleven hundred miles. The western section, kn as the Charles Louis Range, throws onta great promontory southward to the sea.
