Excerpt from The Social Composition of the Teaching PopulationThe original data were obtained in response to the questionaire printed on page 4. This questionaire was distributed with the view of obtaining a random sampling of teachers over the United States in rural, town, and city schools. Such a sampling should give a truer description of the American teacher than facts secured from a selected group, such as principals, superintend ents, or primary teachers. The answers were all collected be tween the middle of August and the middle of December, 1910.These questions were submitted to teachers in twenty-two states.
