The Acts of the Apostles, the fifth of the canonical books of the New Testament, is the inestimable record of an eye-witness of remarkable literary skill, and of singular accuracy and reliability. The continuation of the Gospel story, it is the chief and fullest account of the first thirty years of Christianity after the Descent of the Holy Ghost. The link between the Gospel and the Epistles, it illustrates and enshrines the latter, and is in many instances luminously illustrated by them. Often most detailed, and at times most rapidly abridged, it is a rich and graphic narrative of the propagation of the Christian faith throughout a great portion of the Roman Empire up to the closing years of the great Apostle of the Gentiles.
