One day Jane was a comedy scriptwriter with a successful career in British television and hopes for her future in Hollywood. The next she's reduced to interviewing celebrities for British magazines for three years. She is saved by a crush on peacemaker John Prendergast after seeing his photograph in Vanity Fair. She will do anything to get a date, even following him to Uganda - only to discover he'd already left and she was alone in a war zone. Jane never quite got her man but she did regain her self-respect, becoming a Useful Person, briefly at least.
