Excerpt from Thirteenth Annual Report of the State Board of Health State of Florida: Jacksonville, February 13, 1902The health conditions of Alachua County during 1901 have varied considerably from those of the year previous. During 1900 we experienced the most severe epidemic of estivo-autumnal fever that the country has ever had, while during 1901 there has been comparatively little ma laria in any form.Smallpox continued to prevail to a slight extent dur ing the early part of the year. There were one or more cases of the disease near Newberry, Rochelle, Archer, Hainesworth and Gainesville.
