Thoughts on the Decalogue (Classic Reprint)

Excerpt from Thoughts on the Decalogue

I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. - Exodus xx. 2.

God has several times spoken directly to men without the agency of inspiration, using some power in nature other than a rational medium. Thus has he spoken to Moses, to Elijah and Job, to the apostles on the Mount of Transfiguration, and to Paul near Damascus.

But although God has thus frequently spoken to men, he has but once written a message to his creatures. The Decalogue stands alone as God's manuscript.
