Tides

As exciting a discovery as Emily Fridlund and Megan Hunter, Freeman's debut marks a new generation of Grove literary writers in the vein of Clare Keegan, Lily Tuck, Christine Schutt.

A suspenseful and poetic debut, Tides is a literary, psychological page-turner that explores shifting notions of selfhood through the lens of a complex, female protagonist who struggles with the compulsion to both make and unmake herself in the face of loss

First serial was sold to Granta Magazine

Written in haunting vignettes of precise, elegant prose, Tides will draw fans of other potent short novels such as Hot Milk by Deborah Levy, Grief is The Thing with Feathers by Max Porter, A Separation by Katie Kitamura, The Dry Heart by Natalia Ginzburg and The English Teacher by Lily King.

Sara Freeman is the winner of the Henfield Prize for Fiction from Columbia University and the runner-up in Maisonneuve Magazine's Fiction Competition, and won honorable mention in Glimmer Train's New Writing Competition

Sara Freeman has been published in various literary magazines including: Joyland, McSweeney's Internet Tendency, and Maisonneuve Magazine

Tides was auctioned in three countries. Grove won as underbidder in the States, HarperCollins won in Canada, and Granta in the UK, with simultaneous publication in all three markets.

A beautiful, small format, elegantly designed edition.
