Tom the Owl lives all alone in the desert. He doesn't know how he got there, but he stays stubbornly content exactly where he is until a car passes by on the dusty road near his mesquite tree and leaves him an accidental gift. Out of curiosity, which owls always have, and extreme loneliness, Tom looks the gift over, then follows the car.
