Excerpt from University AddressesThe college graduate of colonial times, pre paring for clerical functions, passed his appren ticeship in the study and under the tuition of some scholarly parish minister. When a clergy man, apt to teach, assembled two, three, or more candidates under his roof, formed them into a class, and taught them after a certain scheme, a beginning was made which developed into the theological seminary.
