Excerpt from Victorien Sardou, Poet, Author, and Member of the Academy of France: A Personal Study

Although, as I have been assured, the function of blowing ones own trumpet is not absolutely distasteful to some eminent personages in the world of art and letters there are others, to my personal knowledge, who experience an unconquerable reluctance to perform upon that instrument, however importunately they may be solicited to do so by hosts of admiring friends. This is why I, in its author's stead, am writing the preface to this booklet.
