Patients and the public expect physicians to recognize and treat victims of interpersonal trauma. Few clinicians, however, are familiar with how to approach patients about past or current intimate partner violence and sexual abuse, and even fewer are aware of effective interventions. Violence Against Women makes available to health care providers essential information on this sensitive subject. Topics include the causes of violence, screening procedures, making referrals, legal issues, and the effects that treating survivors of violence can have on clinicians themselves.
