Our officers and men, under intensive training for the war, will have but little time to make a formal study of French. This little book has accordingly been written in the belief that it may help them to some knowledge of that language. It Is not in tended as a short cut: no such thing exists. But between total ignorance of French and such acquaintance with it as ma fol low from the study of the following pages, there is a great er enoe, useful both to the Government and to our armies. It is believed that any person of intelligence, and of resolution, can master what is here given.
