While traveling on the Oregon Trail, Jillian Colligan, Andrea Farrell, Gwen Atwood, and Samantha Tyson, become friends. Jillian's being sold to an old man by her cruel father, Andrea and Gwen are pregnant, and unhappily married to men who are a great deal years older, while Samantha has just lost her parents, traveling with her older brothers.
