Starting writing in 1953.
The important positions taken before 1975 (1954 - 1975), under the regime of the Republic of Vietnam:
Editor, General Secretary, Secretary of the daily newspapers, weekly and monthly magazines.
Journalist Union Chairman.
Chairman of the Cooperative Housing for the Journalist Union.
Founder of the Press Village which consisted of over 300 units.
President of Vietnam Journalist Association.
Thanh Thuong Hoang was arrested in April 1976 by the current Vietnamese government, and put into the so-called "Re-education Camp" for almost 10 years because of his above stated positions.
Under the protection of the following organizations: Pen Club, Press Union, Vietnamese and International Human Rights. POW Family Protective committee that intervened in defence, he was released and resettled in the U.S. since May of 1999.
He now lives in California.
