They differed widely from one another in their traditions, their history, their religions, their languages, their culture and their national costumes. They had only a few things in com mon: not one of the different peoples of old austria-hun gary was ever satisfied with its government, each nationality had a bitter, passionate and unwavering hatred for at least one adjoining nationality, and all of them wanted to go to America. In these things they were alike.
