Since this little volume was first published, twelve years ago, the question of the economical transmission of power has become one of prime importance.

Central stations have been established for the cheap production of power in large quantities, and the considerable area to thousands of customers. The present tendency is towards still further centralization of the production of power, and its transmission to any required points.

While such extraordinary efforts are being made to cheapen the actual production of power, great care must be exercised that no unnecessary losses be sustained during its transmission.
