Within, Without, and Over

Excerpt from Within, Without, and Over: Or Memorials of the Earnest Life of Henry Clay Hall, Layman

For nearly five years the compiler of these pages has hesitated to make this public record. But a request urged when death arrested such valued and untiring activities, has been often repeated by men of experience and influence, who knew how to prize christian integrity in the life so fairly tested, - and their importunity must be the shield under which the "work" is offered.

"It will not be long - be brave and bear it, do my work with yours, while you stay, - and I will do all a spirit can to help you."

Though spoken as a sacred private benediction, may these parting words of him whose sun went down at meridian, but whose life was long as we measure results, linger like an inspiration throughout these pages, that young men, who were the peculiar interest of the departed, may learn what a single-hearted, unassuming layman, through a pure and consecrated life, may do - for the Master and for the world.
