Valerie Mair was born in Belfast, 1932, to Mary and Charles Plumb. Her father, a poet, co-edited the Oxford Poetry magazine in 1925 with Patrick Monkhouse and in 1926 with W.H. Auden. Her mother and father were divorced by an Act of Parliament in 1939, and the world Valerie lived in changed at the same time the world changed due to World War II. Valerie Mair's memoir chronicles her life from 1932 to the present. It includes notes on the ancestral histories of the Cutting family, the Gage family, the Holmes family, the Moule family and the Plumb family. 219 photographs.
