Au reste, une bonne partie des chapitres dont cet ouvrage se compose, ont déjà été accueillis par mon excellent ami, M. Hachette, dans la Revue de l'instruction publique, dont il est l'éditeur, et il ne m'est point revenu qu'ils aient été une oc casion de scandale: Je n'ai donc pas eu si grand tort de laisser entr'ouverte cette main que le vieux Fontenelle, dans sa prudence un peu égoïste, conseillait de tenir toujours fermée.
