Le sujet de ce Poëme est l'assassinat de M. de Jumonville en Amérique, & la vengeance de ce meurtre. Comme les événemens fur lesquels cet Ouvrage est fondé, pourroient n'être pas connus de tout le monde, je vais d'abord en retracer une légère idée. On y verra, pour ainsi dire, le fond du tableau, & par-là, on sera mieux en état de distinguer les traits étrangers que l'imagination a ajoutés à l'histoire.
