La Fille du Député (Classic Reprint)

Excerpt from La Fille du DéputéLa Fille du Député (1895) is an innocent and sweet little idyl, in spite of its large admixture of truculent politics. Not the least interesting part of the book, indeed, is this incidental picture of contemporary French public life. The rabid socialist Courcier, whose only two emotions are blind, dogged devotion to his creed and love for his daughter, is portrayed with much skill. The development of this sombre and unlovely character is enlivened with touches of delicious humor, as when, in his youthful enthusiasm, Courcier is said to have called Blanqui his god and master, and was rebuked by his idol on the ground that according to the socialistic creed there is neither God nor master, whereupon he took refuge in the appellation father.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
