Excerpt from La Fille du DéputéLa Fille du Député (1895) is an innocent and sweet little idyl, in spite of its large admixture of truculent politics. Not the least interesting part of the book, indeed, is this incidental picture of contemporary French public life. The rabid socialist Courcier, whose only two emotions are blind, dogged devotion to his creed and love for his daughter, is portrayed with much skill.
