On conviendra en effet qu'étant donné le sujet auquel je m'étais'arrêté, il m'aurait été difficile de le traiter moins violemment que je n'ai fait.j'aurais pu introduire mon Christ dans des endroits abominables, lui attribuer des aventures extrêmement viles et lui prêter même au besoin, avec des sentiments odieux, toutes sortes d'expressions dégoûtantes qui auraient rendu saisissant mon personnage. Mais je ne l'al pas voulu.
