Ce ne fut d'ailleurs que de courte durée, en 1807, Napoléon grand réparateur d'injustices, créa le duché de Varsovie, mais il commit une grave erreur, celle d'v englober le territoire de Suvalkai qui n'avait rien de polonais. En i815 enfin, de par la volonté du Congrès de Vienne, tout aussi peu informé, Suvalkai devint un des gouvernements du royaume de Pologne et passa comme tel sous la domination des tzars russes.
